Throwback Thursday: The Muppet Family Chirstmas

The road to Christmas is one filled with numerous TV shows that are designed to pull at the heartstrings and make all the cuddles with your littles feel tighter.  So if you are looking for something that’s fun and keeping with the Christmas spirit, check out The Muppet Family Christmas from 1987.

I remember back in the day having to rush to a TV to see this masterpiece in Christmas programming.  Back in the 80s there was no fanfare or warning that new shows were coming.  I dropped everything as soon as my Dad yelled up to my room to turn on the TV.  I’m so glad I did.

Muppet Family Christmas is all about family.  The entire Muppet family.  Kermit and the Muppet Show gang arrive at Fozzy Bear’s mother’s farm house for Christmas, much to the disappointment of Doc and Sprocket from Fraggle Rock, who were just looking for a nice quiet and relaxing Christmas.  Soon afterwards the rest of the Muppet cast from Sesame Street arrives followed by the Fraggles as well.

In traditional Muppet fashion there are Christmas songs sung, vaudevillian, slapstick comedy callbacks that made my son laugh, as well as a very Canadian moment or two when the Fraggles make their appearance, eh.  It has so much heart and warmth to it.  If you ask me, this is THE crossover event I will always fondly remember.  To boot, Jim Henson makes an appearance that makes me tear up just thinking about it.  I’m not crying…okay…I am…It’s that awesome.

However, this TV show can be tricky to find.  It’s really hard to find a DVD copy of this show, so if you do get your hands on it, grab it.  It will be a warm and welcome addition to your Christmas TV rotation if it isn’t already. Merry Christmas!
