It’s a sad time for Whovians around the world as Peter Capaldi, who plays the 12th Doctor, will be leaving “Doctor Who” during the 2017 Christmas Special. BBC confirmed the news on official “Doctor Who” social media platforms this afternoon.
Capaldi joined the series in 2014 in series 8 and will depart at the end of the 10th series.
Showrunner Steven Moffat, who has been running the series since 2010, had previously announced that he would be leaving the show this year as well. “Broadchurch”‘s Chris Chibnall is set to replace Moffat.
The 10th series of “Doctor Who” is set to air on BBC One and BBC America this Spring.
