Fox has added Josh Brolin to the cast of “Deadpool 2” as Cable, the perennial straight-man to the Merc with a Mouth. This gives us the trio of characters who defined so much of the character’s comic canon with Ryan Reynolds reprising Deadpool, Brolin as Cable, and “Atlanta”’s Zazie Beetz as the mercenary, Domino.
Although Michael Shannon was thought be the front runner for Cable, Brolin beat him out – abuse of an infinity gem, perhaps (LOL, because he played Thanos in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron”…and the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War”)?
Key stars aren’t the only roles Deadpool 2 has been swapping around. The director is “John Wick” co-director David Leitch who hopped on board last fall after Tim Miller, “Deadpool” director (and voice actor extradorinaire; I swear this dude’s voice is in every cartoon my kids watch…”Big Hero 6″, “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise…it’s crazy), walked away.
The stakes are high for this movie since “Deadpool” gave Fox the highest-grossing R-rated film in history; “Deadpool” cleared $782.6 million worldwide…not bad for a throwaway Deathstroke parody by creators Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld.
Since Deadpool’s first appearance, he has been tied to Cable. They have appeared in each other’s comic titles frequently and shared a buddy-cop/odd-couple title for over 50 issues between 2004 and 2008.
There’s no official release date on “Deadpool 2” yet…but IMDB has it slated for 2018.
Does Brolin have the chops to match mouths (heehee) with Ryan Reynolds? Leave a comment with your predictions!
